A double victory in the last race of the season helped secure the team’s 1st place overall in Class B in 2025.

The Shield Golf Team Triumphs at Extreme Festival Final
The final round of the Extreme Festival roared to life on November 8th, celebrating raw speed and precision engineering. At the heart of the action lay the fiercely competitive GT & 111 Racing Series.
Among the dedicated grid of racers, one car consistently stood out as a force to be reckoned with: our distinctive Mk1 Shield Golf.
The Shield Golf embodies the spirit of grassroots motorsport. Known among spectators and a favourite with the kids for its striking livery and relentless performance, it often finds itself bordering on A-Class lap times.
The success of the Shield Golf team is a true family and friends affair. Every member plays an integral part in the overall operation and without their dedication, this journey would simply not be possible.
A huge thank you to Shield and the entire team for all the incredible support throughout the season.

Showdown: Battle for Class B Glory
Heading into the final race event of the season, the Shield Golf was locked in an intense tie for the Class B Championship lead with seasoned campaigner Mike O’Sullivan in his Honda Ballade.
The stakes were clear: I needed to win both races to ensure victory and secure the overall Class B honours. Mike, desperate for the title, had fitted a turbocharger to his Ballade, aiming for extra speed to gain the upper hand on the “Green Mamba.”
Interestingly, and somewhat surprisingly, the turbo power wasn’t enough to overcome the superb performance of our car. The 8V Performance-prepared motor was perfectly tuned and never missed a beat throughout the day.
A massive thank you to Sarel and the rest of the team for providing such a well-prepared and reliable car for the crucial final round.

The Shield Golf was not hanging around – we had a Class B championship to win.

The Strategy: Aggression vs. Caution
On the day, the racing was a delicate balancing act. The goal was to be aggressive enough to win the race while simultaneously being cautious enough to avoid any mirror-bashing incidents. A mishap could have easily thrown a spanner in the works and potentially cost us the championship.
Having secured the win in Heat 1, the pressure shifted slightly for the final race. I knew I either needed to win the heat or finish a very close second to Mike to ensure my overall combined time for the day was superior.
The Shield Golf certainly rose to the occasion! Adding to the drama, we had MMA star Drikus Du Plessis glued to my bumper right until the checkered flag. This thrilling battle created incredible entertainment for the spectators and generated significant airtime on the streaming channel.
Drikus du Plessis on my tail – who did well in his 1st race.

Wishing you and your loved ones a blessed and relaxing Festive Season and a Prosperous New Year!
For those traveling, please take care on the roads. A huge thank you once again to the Shield Team for all the incredible support this year.
The Shield Golf Team is already underway with preparations for the first race of the 2026 season and we look forward to seeing you all back at the track!
